Hence all the faculty members have separate access to umpteen reputed National and International journals of Cambridge University Press, Oxford University Press, Economic and Political Weekly, American Institute of Physics, Indian Journals to mention a few, besides having access to several e-books. The E-Edge
The College has a computerized open access Central library using Linux based software. This enables both students and faculty members to access resources in the library with ease. The Library also has four computers for the students with free internet access (for reference work only). Besides, it has three additional computers to maintain the computerized catalogue, for issuing and returning books and for the use of both students and faculty members. The college Central Library has reprographic facilities--- one sophisticated Canon machine which provides photocopy, fax, computer printing and scan facilities. In addition to this, OPAC service is given for searching documents by different access. A complete database of library books (approximately 18,000 volumes) has been generated to facilitate ease of access for the students and ensure speedy and efficient circulation.
Student Concerns
College organizes Library Orientation Programme for the freshers in the beginning of every academic session. While Honours students are permitted to issue two books at a time, students of General course can issue only one book at a time. Books borrowed by the students must be returned to the library within the stipulated date, failing which a fine is imposed at the rate of Re.1 per day. Disfiguring, damaging or tearing pages of books are serious offences and are severely dealt with using extreme measures, including expulsion from the college. Books must be returned to the library by the students before depositing fees and forms for the final university examination. Students must pay five times the purchase value of the book for loss or damage of any book. However, in certain cases students may be allowed to replace the book by purchasing a new book.
Seminar Library for Each Department
In addition to the Central Library, there are departmental Seminar Libraries with sufficient number of texts and reference books. Students of Honours and General courses can borrow books from respective Seminar Libraries and have to return the same within the stipulated time, to the respective Departmental Teachers. Each departmental Seminar Library maintains a Issuing-Register Book to keep a record of the books issued. The main objective of the Seminar Libraries is to facilitate their further demand of books.
