We firmly believe that true education empowers learners to grow into confident individuals and conscientious citizens capable of contributing meaningfully to society. It is therefore with profound humility and great pride that I take on the responsibility of serving as the Teacher-in-Charge of Budge Budge College.
Established on 10th December 1971, the college began its journey in a modest setting with only a few classrooms before moving to its present campus. We were privileged to have the eminent writer, late Narayan Ganguly, as the Founder President of the Governing Body, and late Dr. Prithwis Dutta as the Founder Principal. Over the decades, the college has contributed significantly to the advancement of higher education in the suburban areas of Kolkata and presently offers undergraduate programmes in twenty subjects.
Our committed faculty members endeavour to cultivate a vibrant and inclusive academic atmosphere where students are encouraged to question, explore, and innovate. Alongside a robust academic framework, we place equal emphasis on co-curricular and extracurricular activities that foster leadership, teamwork, and the holistic development of our learners.
The true strength of our college lies in its people—our students, teaching and non-teaching staff, and esteemed stakeholders, including our alumni. The growth and enrichment of these human resources remain the central mission of the institution. As the guiding force behind our collective initiatives, the Teacher-in-Charge works with a dedicated and dynamic community to maintain a supportive and harmonious campus environment that encourages both scholastic achievement and active co-curricular participation.
We actively encourage engagement in sports and physical activities, recognising their vital role in overall well-being. In recent years, the NSS and NCC units have been revitalised and under the careful guidance of their respective teachers, students participate enthusiastically in extension activities that promote social awareness, community service, and personal growth.
The college has also witnessed consistent infrastructural development to facilitate its wide-ranging academic and co-curricular activities. Our facilities include automated central and departmental libraries, smart ICT-enabled smart classrooms, computer terminals and laptops with internet access, scanner and printer facilities across departments, a Wi-Fi-enabled campus, uninterrupted power supply, CCTV surveillance, and a well-equipped gymnasium.
In guiding these diverse initiatives, the Teacher-in-Charge is ably supported by the statutory and functional bodies of the college, including the Governing Body, the Teachers’ Council, the Students’ Union, and the Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC).
Looking ahead, I envision the college evolving further as a dynamic centre of creativity, collaboration, and critical inquiry. Let us collectively reaffirm our commitment to nurturing a campus culture grounded in diversity, meaningful dialogue, and mutual respect, as we continue striving for excellence in all our endeavours.
